Tips for Keeping Your Fuel Expenses Low
It's expected that gas prices will remain very expensive throughout the rest of 2021, and perhaps longer. Fortunately, there are some fuel-saving measures you can take that will help to lessen the sting of high prices. At All Engines & Transmissions, our local mechanics can complete auto maintenance that will help your car get the best gas mileage possible.
Easy Ways to Improve Fuel-Efficiency
While going about your daily driving routine, there are a couple of simple ways to prevent fuel waste. One easy task is to make sure that your gas cap is returned to a tightly secured position after every time you fill up your tank. If your gas cap is loose or missing, then fuel may evaporate before your engine gets the chance to run on it. Another simple task you can do is make sure that you're driving with correct tire pressure. Tire pressure usually needs to be somewhere between 30 and 35 psi, and it's worth checking to see your tires' precise pressure requirement and inflating them as needed. With underinflated tires, your engine will have to expend more energy to get the soft rubber to roll, which can then cause a reduction in MPGs.
When you bring your car to us at the shop, we can conduct maintenance that improves fuel-efficiency. Fuel filters should be changed out every 20,000 to 30,000 miles so that contaminants don't negatively affect gas mileage and engine performance. Air filters should be replaced every 12,000 to 15,000 miles, which will allow the proper quantity of air to get to the combustion chamber. In turn, your engine won't burn additional fuel to compensate for an air shortage. We can also conduct other routine maintenance tasks that will help to optimize fuel-economy, such as oil changes and spark plug replacement.
